Michael Durso, Senior Pastor of Christ Tabernacle in Glendale, New York, was formerly a partner in his family’s culinary business. In 1985, he and his wife Maria were chosen to lead a small church in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Since the inception of the work, the church has grown and lives have been miraculously transformed. What began with a handful of faithful people, grew, and when their building could no longer meet their growing needs, they moved to a larger facility in 1996 in the area of Glendale, Queens.
What began with one service has escalated over the years and now become six services on a Sunday with two mid-week prayer meetings over two campuses. Their Brooklyn campus hosts a Spanish congregation and The Legacy Center, the outreach branch of their ministry, helps meet needs not only in their local communities but across the city.
Maria Durso is living proof that if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). Having come from a childhood devastated by loss and abuse she grew up thinking she could mask her pain with drugs. Her lifestyle could have left her hopeless and alone—yet God kept and preserved Maria’s life.
Understanding firsthand the effects of abandonment, loneliness and rejection are, she ministers to those whose hurt lies deep in the heart and works to minister to those who need hope. Armed with discernment, insight into the true character of God, honest about her own experience, and down to earth, Maria is an intercessor, teacher, and powerful speaker.
With a foundational emphasis on prayer and intercession, Mike and Maria Durso firmly believe that lives are dramatically changed and growth occurs when prayer is combined with excellence in ministry. They have witnessed, firsthand, the faithfulness and grace of God who supplies the needs of a continually growing urban church.
