During these 40 days of devotion, we’ll be doing a partial full-fast as a church. This means we will be doing a full-fast (liquids only) for part of the day (from sun up to sundown).  If you are not medically able to participate in this type of fast, please see this resource on other types of fasts you may be able to participate in.

During the duration of the fast, we will be reading “The Great Divorce” by C.S. Lewis, and hosting an early morning prayer and devotions on Wednesdays at 6:00 am via zoom that will be led by a pastor from StoryHeights Church.

We highly encourage you to be an active participant in the early morning prayer and book reading as these will be crucial elements to a successful fast (both personally and corporately).

To cap it all off, the 40 days of devotion will bring us into our Kings & Priests Conference that will take place from March 4th – 6th. This is going to be an amazing time where we’ll hear from guest speakers and really lean into what God has in store for us in 2022.

As a church, we’ll be reading “The Great Divorce” by C.S. Lewis. This book is a classic Christian allegorical tale about a bus ride from hell to heaven. An extraordinary meditation upon good and evil, grace and judgment, Lewis’s revolutionary idea in The Great Divorce is that the gates of Hell are locked from the inside. Using his extraordinary descriptive powers, Lewis’ The Great Divorce will change the way we think about good and evil.

Join The Zoom

Each Wednesday at 6:00 am, we will be hosting an early morning prayer and devotion time that will be led by various pastors from StoryHeights Church. If you choose to participate in these 40 days of devotion, this once-a-week gathering is crucial to the success of your fast, as this is where we will come together and share what God is speaking to us as we continue on our journey to draw near to God.

Register for Kings & Priests

Kings and Priests is our annual churchwide conference held at StoryHeights Church. You can expect a relaxed, laid-back environment created specifically for you to encounter God in a new way. Come ready for times of extended worship and prayer, as well as powerful messages and opportunities to go deeper in your faith and be further equipped to live righteously. This will take place March 4th – 6th, and will be the perfect cap to these 40 days of devotion.

It's Your Story. Take It Higher.

Why Pray?

The power of prayer deepens our dependence on Him and sharpens our faith. When we pray we choose to put everything in God’s hands knowing that His hand will show up in every aspect of our lives and in those around us.

The act of prayer is what creates our intimacy with God. We can practice the spiritual habit of prayer knowing that our requests go to a God who hears us and who invites us to be intimately involved in His plan. For this reason, we pray in confidence knowing that our prayers are powerful and can bring about change in any circumstance.

There are no levels to this. We all can enter prayer with a posture of trust, openness, and faith, believing that God can do far more than we could even ask or imagine.  It’s not about our circumstance, it’s about our heart stance.

1. Prayer sharpens our faith.

2. Prayer creates deeper intimacy with God.

3. Prayer is powerful and brings about change.

Why Fast?

Fasting is the ancient practice of choosing to abstain from food for a certain period of time. It is a spiritual discipline, the purpose of which is training to become more like Jesus. The motivation of our fasting is to draw closer to the heart of God. Fasting is a Christian discipline to break the power of the flesh in our life – our desires, sins, and cravings – and to feed on the Holy Spirit.

“Fasting helps us to express, to deepen, and to confirm the resolution that we are ready to sacrifice anything, even ourselves, to attain the Kingdom of God.” – Scot McKnight.

In summary, fasting is not about getting from God but it is about getting to God.

1. Fasting is a Christian discipline to break the power of the flesh in our life.

2. Fasting is not about getting from God, but rather getting to God.

3. Although the motivation is the same, there are various methods to fasting.

What Kind of Fast Are We Doing?

While there are several different types of fasts, we as a church will be doing a partial full fast, meaning we will only consume liquids (a full fast) from sun up to sundown (for part of the day).

If you are not medically able to perform this type of fast, here are some other ideas for fasts. Please use your own discretion when choosing which type of fast you’d like to partake in:
